Software Protection:

  • Antivirus and Anti-malware: Use a reputable antivirus and anti-malware program and keep it up to date with the latest virus definitions. These programs can help to detect and remove malicious software that can steal your data or damage your device.
  • Firewall: Ensure the firewall is enabled. This helps block unauthorized access to the computer from the internet.
  • Software Updates: Regularly update operating system (Windows, Mac, etc.), web browser, and other software. Updates often include security patches that fix vulnerabilities. You can usually enable automatic updates for most software.
    •

Strong Passwords: Use strong, unique passwords for all your accounts. A strong password is at least 12 characters long and includes a combination of upper and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Avoid using easily guessable information like birthdays or pet names.

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Whenever possible, enable MFA on your accounts. This adds an extra layer of security by requiring a second verification step, such as a code from your phone, in addition to the password when logging in.

Login Screen Timeout: Set your computer to require a password after a period of inactivity. This helps prevent someone from accessing your computer if you step away for a moment.

Login Screen Password Create a strong unique login password for the login screen to prevent unauthorized access when your computer is unattended.
