Here are some steps you can take to secure your mobile device and laptop as a teacher

Strong Passwords and Encryption

  • Enable screen lock: Set up a PIN, password, fingerprint recognition, or facial recognition to unlock your phone and laptop. This adds a first line of defence in case your device is lost or stolen.
  • Enable encryption: Most modern devices offer encryption options that scramble your data on the device itself. This makes it much harder for someone to access your information even if they get their hands on your device.
  •

    • Download apps only from trusted sources: Stick to official app stores like Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Avoid downloading apps from untrusted websites.

    • Review app permissions before installing: Pay attention to the permissions requested by an app before installing it. Does the app really need access to your location or microphone? If something seems suspicious, don't install the app.

  •

    • Keep your software updated: Always install the latest software updates for your operating system and applications. These updates often include security patches that fix vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit.

    • Antivirus and Anti-malware: Use a reputable antivirus and anti-malware program on your devices. Keep them up-to-date to scan for and remove any potential threats.
